What to look for
Sunken, brown-black patches at the base of the fruit, opposite the stem.
Why it happens
Uneven calcium uptake, almost always driven by inconsistent soil moisture rather than a calcium shortage in the soil itself.
Gentle remedy
Mulch to even out soil moisture and water on a consistent schedule.
